There are more certified project managers per head of population in Ireland than any other country in Europe. One of the reasons project management is so well established in Ireland is the number of multinationals based here that run global projects from their Irish operation.
It’s the project manager’s job to ensure that the entire team knows what has to be done, who is doing what, and when it has to be done. The most common reason identified for projects failing is insufficient planning. No matter how big or small the project, the project plan should have four elements;
- scope
- time
- cost
- quality
Balancing the elements sometimes means cutting your cloth to measure; reducing the project scope to fit within budget for example, or increasing the duration to ensure the quality is right. By building a plan with these four elements in balance, you are well on your way to delivering a successful project.
