The recent UK Edinburgh outbreak, in which a 56-year-old man has died, indicates that poor maintenance regimes or complacency are still too prevalent in public buildings and other large complexes, according to the Building & Engineering Services Association (B&ES).
David O’Brien, Managing Director of Acacia Facilities Management explains “organisations are required to ensure that maintenance programmes take into account the potential risks from Legionnaires, this should start with a Water Services Risk Assessment conducted by a competent person. This assessment will identify the building specific risks and regulatory checks and maintenance that should be completed. “
