Evergreen Project: Update

by | Feb 25, 2022 | CSR, Energy, Environmental, Evergreen

The urgency and effect of climate crisis has not been lost on Irish business. CSR or ESG (environmental, social and governance) is being given priority in organisations and the effects of this are being felt throughout. Large businesses are incorporating sustainability KPIs into new areas of their business such as portions of executive pay being tied to ESG measures. Additionally, when choosing suppliers or working with another organisation, being able to see evidence of an organisation ability to be sustainable is becoming essential.

Acacia Evergreen is an ongoing project that we envisage continuing indefinitely. Our priorities currently are making information about sustainability accessible and collaborative for our employees. The desire for individuals to be more sustainable in their daily lives exists but information about how to be more sustainable is missing. Consequently, part of our initiative is to find small but meaningful ways for our teams to participate. Additionally, helping all our stakeholders understand where we are on the road to becoming more sustainable and having measurable goals to work towards is part of our communications efforts.

Changing habits and behaviours takes time and, as we’re discovering, incorporating sustainable practices into the different parts of an organisation is challenging. We are detailing the changes that we’re making on our new Responsible Business page. Our policies and how we plan our sustainability efforts unfolding over the next 12 months will be documented there. We have aligned our efforts with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and have chosen those most applicable to our business. We are working with Science Based Targets to document our progress in reducing our carbon footprint, however incremental. We also continue to make further changes to our organisation’s sustainability practices, ensuring that our Eco Vadis silver medal becomes a gold medal.
